🇫🇮 Finnish Fluency Lab
FAQs
1. Is live support and guidance available during the sessions?
Yes, for technical problems, such as if you are unable to see the discussion cards during the session.
No, live teaching support, correction, grammar explanations or vocabulary teaching are not provided during Finnish Fluency Lab sessions.
Guidance is provided through the speaking cards. Each card includes a Finnish question, ready-made answer options and English translation support. This means there are no silent moments in Finnish Fluency Lab, and everyone is able to take part.
The card packs are provided according to level. Lower-level learners can read and repeat the ready-made answers, while higher-level learners are welcome to give their own answers, longer answers and follow-up ideas. For higher levels, the cards are there to keep the discussion moving and give ideas for what to say.

2. Are the speaking cards available after the session?
No.

4. Does this method work for everyone?
Yes and no.
Maria, the creator of Finnish Fluency Lab, is a firm believer in learning languages through immersion and use, not simply studying.
There is plenty of evidence that using a language helps you learn it. Repetition of unfamiliar structures can make them familiar, and repetition of familiar structures can lead to fluency.
Finnish Fluency Lab receives consistently great feedback, but different learning approaches work for different people.
Give it a go. If you never try, you’ll never know.

5. Is Finnish Fluency Lab a Finnish lesson?
No.
Finnish Fluency Lab is guided speaking practice, not a traditional Finnish lesson.
Finnish Fluency Lab enables connection and discussion in Finnish with other learners.
There is no live teaching, grammar, correction or vocabulary explanation during the sessions. The guidance is built into the speaking cards, which provide the questions, answer models, useful structures and English translation support.
6. What if I’m unsure of my level?
During the sessions, you can choose to join the room at the level where you feel most comfortable.
The speaking cards are provided by level, so lower-level learners can read and repeat more, while higher-level learners can use the cards as a starting point for longer answers.
You do not need to speak perfectly. The purpose is to practise speaking, build confidence and become more fluent through use.
During the session, if you feel you have joined at the wrong level, you can always return to ‘reception’ and be assigned to another room.
7. Are the sessions recorded?
No.
Finnish Fluency Lab sessions are live speaking practice sessions and are not recorded.
This keeps the sessions more relaxed and gives learners a safer space to speak, make mistakes and practise with other people.
8. Do I need to prepare before the session?
No.
You do not need to prepare before Finnish Fluency Lab.
The speaking cards are provided during the session and include the support you need to take part. You can read, repeat, adapt the answers or create your own answers depending on your level.
